Efficient energy storage is one of the key points to be solved for a successful development of renewable energies. In addition, the increasing demand for energy sources to power various portable equipments for microelectronics, safety, medical applications, army, smart phones, telecommunications, tools, etc… but also large size applications like electric vehicles and smart grids requires new high performance materials.  Secondary batteries and supercapacitors are the best solution as yet.

This symposium aims at bringing together scientists and engineers from universities, research institutes and industry who are working towards the design, characterization and performance of new materials for energy storage.

A special emphasis will be laid upon advanced materials involved in electrochemical storage devices including secondary batteries and supercapacitors. Materials for hydrogen storage, thermal storage and inertial storage will be also considered.

The key challenge is to understand structure-property relationships of emerging materials.
